Rain, Rain, go away…

Man, it is icky outside! It has not stopped raining for like two days now. It has warmed up past freezing though so there is that at least.

Despite my desire to stay in bed watching Netflix all day, I arrived at the newsroom bright and early for my GA shift. I was just in time to catch a couple photographers on their way to a tennis match. Always love seeing the photo department.

I started the morning by checking over the Missourian’s home page and checking the 7:00 arrest report from Boone County. There weren’t any crazy arrests. I did love Irina’s story on the front page about international students. The visuals were wonderful and the story was so great! Both really show an intimacy or relationship with the subjects.

Following this, I prepared and brainstormed for a meeting I have with the Nclusion group whom I am writing a story about as requested last week by Molly. This is going to be a really fun story and I am excited to work on it. I have my first interview with them tomorrow and then my next steps will be talking with the photo department and getting individual interviews.

Next, I checked the city council meeting agenda for tomorrow. Some items of note: They are having presentations from the 2021 Diversity Award Winners. Rachel Profffitt will be speaking on the Societal Implications of the New Trash and Recycling Rules and there are public comments. Douglas Mann is going to speak on Right-Wing Extremism. (That’s odd, right?) There will be proposed construction for the Fourth Street and Broadway pedestrian crossing project.

I think the most important thing will be the discussion on trash since the new rules go into effect tomorrow as well.

I checked the Boone County gov side of things as well but didn’t see anything of note really.

When Molly arrived, she had me check the State Highway Patrol crash report as well. There was a fatal accident of a Columbia man on Friday that we hadn’t covered (although ABC17 and STL did). So I got to write that up. It was a good lesson in writing about fatalities and how to check the crash report.
