Relaxed reflection on Sunday

So, you all may have noticed I didn’t make my usual Wednesday post. This is because I got the pleasure of spending the last week in sunny Florida. It was immensely relaxing and I enjoyed it.

While on vacation, I still had two stories publish that I had been working long term on.

The first is the Nclusion Plus story. I oved the photos we got with it and I was so excited to see it published. I got great reviews from my sources. It didn’t get any print space though and I would still like to push for that!

The second story was about the Beta Settlement Case. This case was a challenge to work on; it was complicated and we ran into a few problems with finding sources willing to talk. I was proud of the story we put together though and felt like we had done well. As soon as it was published though, I immediately noticed some errors, like a whole chunk was missing so a paragraph started in the middle of a word! I quickly slacked the ice desk and the ACE contacted me to straighten it out. Unfortunately, not quite quick enough, and I received an email about the error as well as a claim that the events transpired a little differently than we reported. I requested more info and haven’t heard back yet.

Several stories still caught my eye though. Let’s start.

First, I read through this story about homelessness in Columbia by Madison and Alexandra. I thought it was very informative. It gave me a lot of new information. The portrait at the top was the perfect start to the story as it made it personable. This story really inspired me and had me thinking all week. I thought the visuals were fresh and engaging as well. The graphics were very informative as well.

I really enjoyed Haley’s photos for the Knights of Columbus fish fry story. I remembered hearing about how bad the line was and I am glad we got to do a story.

The next few stories I wanted to draw attention are about the COVID vaccine. I really liked the graphic in this story here about where Missouri is at in the process. As a reader, this is what I like to see. I also was glad to see a couple of vaccine stories about people of color: this one and this one, even if they aren’t the most positive stories. I am glad we are doing the reporting though and I admired the number of quality sources used.
