Sunny Sunday Thoughts!

Happy March! And March has brought sunshine finally.

The first thing I want to remark on is the front page of the Missourian paper on Sunday.

When I saw this beautiful story for the first time on the website, it featured the portrait more prominently. This drew my attention. I was disappointed to see that in the print edition, we chose to run this picture of a picture instead. Even my roommate remarked that there seemed to be a waste of space along the edges and preferred the portrait.

It was a beautiful article thought. I enjoyed the personal note from Irina at the bottom.

Next, I loved Anna’s story about the Big Tree. I was happy to read about it. Despite the numerous times we’ve reported it, I managed to learn something new from reading it still and I really liked that. It was nice to hear from some interesting people on the subject.

I also enjoyed reading these articles, Busy Bee and Bringing Home the Greens, from Como Magazine. These were about topics and people I was personally interested in. I found them very informative and the photos were amazing.

During this week, after my GA shifts, I also had a couple stories publish.

The entire public life beat came together to publish a story about the city council candidates’ finances reports. We had to do a ton of cold calling for this and really fast reporting, and it was a challenge. We pulled out something I was really proud of though.

Kelsy and I also teamed up to cover the Muleskinner’s candidate forum. There weren’t questions prepared beforehand and the meeting wasn’t recorded which made the reporting a little harder. A wide variety of topics were covered making it harder to pick the lede and the focus of the story.

And with that I wrap up another week. Til next week!
