Welcome to the Missourian Newsroom!

Today is a very special day. Today, the United States swore in a new President and made history by swearing in our first woman Vice President. I’ll say it again because that is a fact that deserves it’s own sentence.

Today, the United States swore in its first female Vice President. And she’s a woman of color with a blended, multiracial family. World, watch out!

More importantly for this blog, it’s also the first Wednesday of the semester. Wednesday’s are my general assignment days so I spent the afternoon at the Missourian for my first shift. Introductions were made and I was briefed on the new COVID rules.

With the inauguration, that is where most of the newsroom attention was focused. With it being the first week, and COVID, the newsroom felt pretty empty.

Yesterday, Scott (my editor) contacted me about working on a news brief today about an appeal for a lawsuit against MU. There was a lot of background to this story, but due to its ongoing nature and previous coverage, I was instructed to write a short update and link previous stories, which I did.

It being my first news story in a bit, Molly, the ACE, refreshed me on writing headlines, where to find slugs, and helped me edit my story. She also provided some helpful information on writing summaries as well. This story was the perfect opportunity to refresh on CQing and AP writing style.
